Casa Brancaia
In the heart of Chianti Classico, across 19 hectares, Brancaia hand-craft wines from Sangiovese, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon, including the classic 'Il Blu'.
Casa Brancaia, owned by Swiss couple Brigitte and Bruno Widmer since 1981, is a prestigious winery located in the heart of the Chianti Classico region of Tuscany, Italy. The estate quickly gained recognition when its 1983 vintage won first place in a major Chianti Classico tasting, marking the beginning of its ascent as a celebrated wine producer. Today, Brancaia is known for its dedication to quality and a distinctive style that has garnered international acclaim, especially for its flagship wine, Brancaia IL BLU. The winery is guided by the passion and expertise of the Widmer family, along with a talented team of winemakers who continue to build on Brancaia’s reputation for excellence.
Brancaia’s viticulture and winemaking are centred around a meticulous approach that blends tradition with modern innovation. The winery’s vineyards are spread across two estates, Brancaia and Poppi, nestled in the rolling hills of Tuscany, where the unique microclimate and soils contribute to the character of their wines. Brancaia employs sustainable vineyard practices, including careful canopy management and hand-harvesting to ensure the highest quality grapes. In the cellar, the winemaking process is characterised by precision and minimal intervention, allowing the natural expression of the varietals to shine. The use of both traditional oak barrels and innovative winemaking techniques helps create wines with structure, depth, and a distinctive elegance, setting Brancaia apart in the competitive Chianti Classico landscape.
Brancaia has been certified organic since 2019. Sustainability is a cornerstone of the Casa's philosophy, guiding every aspect of their vineyard management and winemaking. The estate is committed to organic farming practices, minimising the use of synthetic chemicals and promoting biodiversity within the vineyards. Brancaia prioritises soil health and water conservation, employing techniques such as green cover crops and efficient irrigation systems to maintain the natural balance of the ecosystem. The winery also focuses on energy efficiency, using renewable energy sources and sustainable packaging solutions. These initiatives not only reduce the environmental impact of their operations but also ensure that Brancaia continues to produce wines that authentically reflect the terroir of Tuscany while preserving it for future generations.
