These are boom times for English wine - new wineries spring up by the week, new vineyards are being planted at a feverish pace, and new international renown comes with almost every tasting competition. From the chalky Sussex Downs to picturesque counties of Devon and Cornwall, English wine is maturing fast. The sparkling wines generate the most column inches - and with good reason - but an ever wider and finer range of still wines is also helping the country to assert its own style and character.
