A very special wine that is only made in outstanding vintages from an historic east-facing vineyard planted with at least 49 vine varieties. Intense, vibrant violet colour. On the nose there is great depth and complexity, with aromas of wild forest flowers, white pepper and soft dark chocolate. On the palate it is upfront yet in perfect harmony. It is full-bodied and richly flavoured, with superb tannin, acid and fruit balance. Intense, wild forest flowers and integrated oak and spice contribute to its impressive palate structure and length.

Press Review
" This potent expression of Vinha Maria Teresa (a 4.7ha parcel) is loaded with dry extract. Sculpted beneath the corset of perfumed, kid glove oak and layers of gravelly tannin lurks a bottomless pit of black and blue berry, black currant and plum fruit. With time to breathe, the fruit melds with creamy oak and spicy liquorice and crushed coriander seed notes emerge. Glorious potential. Drinking Window 2024 - 2037. "
Press Review
" The 2017 Vinha Maria Teresa, a field blend from centenarian vines, was aged for 20 months in new oak (90% French, 10% American). It comes in at 14.5% alcohol. The final blend comes from the best-performing barrels. This was only in bottle about a month when tasted. This doesn't quite have the power of the Tinta Roriz, but it is only a small step behind. Yet the power is beautifully controlled. It never seems too astringent, even if burly at times. Of course, Maria Teresa always has beautiful structure. The key to this bottling is typically its personality, its lively fruit, its aromatics. The fruit this year is beautiful, delicious, very ripe and lingering on the gripping finish. It has focus and potential, but it certainly needs a lot of time. Drink 2023-2045. "
Winemaking
The grapes, coming from Vinha Maria Teresa, a plot of Quinta do Crasto´s vineyard, were taken to the winery in plastic boxes and rigorously inspected on arrival. The grapes were first foot trodden in a traditional stone tank (“lagar”) and after this, they were transferred into an open stainless steel tank with robotic pistons. Fermentation took place for 7 days under strict controlled temperature environment.
