Susana Balbo
An instant hit with wine lovers and critics alike, Susana Balbo’s wines have won multiple awards since launch, including the coveted Argentine Wine of the Year accolade from James Suckling for their premium Nosotros Paraje Altamira Malbec.
Susana Balbo studied enology, graduating in in 1981 as Argentina’s first female oenologist, and spent some years managing the winemaking operations of the Sucesión Michel Torino winery, where she was responsible for redefining Argentine Torrontés as a world-class wine. A pioneer in an Argentine industry almost exclusively run men, Susana Balbo built her reputation as a consultant before launching her own winery project in 1999 in her homeland of Mendoza.
In the 2010s, after ten years of sustained growth of the Susana Balbo business and estate vineyards, Susana’s children José and Ana joined the family business to work side-by-side with their mother and head winemaker Edgardo Del Pópolo to continue their family’s winemaking legacy.
Susana’s innovative approach to winemaking has been at the forefront of the development of unique, delicate and elegant wines, with worldwide appeal, which have come to define their category, and to define the global market for Argentine wines as a whole.
Sustainability is a cornerstone of the Susana Balbo philosophy, with a strong commitment to the environment coupled with unwavering support for the local communities in which they operate. Working some of the finest terroirs of Argentina, a team that are among the most talented winemakers in the world dare to make the best wines for each region and varietal under the Susana Balbo name.
