A savoury, cedary, chocolatey nose is followed by a lovely, satisfying completeness, reminiscent of mature Châteauneuf du Pape. A surprisingly subtle and nuanced wine - particularly for the Barossa - it has lovely, savoury, gamey, woody complexity, and an impressively sustained finish. It also has restrained alcohol for the region (just over 14%, when 15%+ is the norm), as well as fresh, balancing acidity. Both alcohol and acidity do their job, but neither sticks out: the overall effect is integrated, harmonious, beautifully-balanced and effortlessly drinkable!

Press Review
" An alluring perfume of red fruits and a range of Indian spices. Creamy, effortlessly charming palate with layers of liquorice, red leather and fine, long tannins. Truly delicious. "

" "Heady leather, tertiary notes, savoury coffee, dusty cupboards, firm acid and still juicy dark fruits and refreshing acidity" - Tina Gellie. "Coconut, bonfire, dark berries and cedar, lovely big aromatics. Elegant on first taste, notes of cola and herbs, evolving with olives, vanilla, cedar and bacon" - Roger Jones. The first vintage from Sam Kurtz and Bernadette Kaeding's 5ha in the northern Barossa sub-region of Ebenezer, which they purchased in 1996. Doing everything themselves (now with son Raj's help) from pruning to bottling - including labels designed and affixed by Kaeding - this 2004 vintage was fermented with wild yeasts in open-top vats, with some whole-bunch fruit used, basket pressed then aged in seasoned French oak. Drink 2023-2028. "
Winemaking
Fermented with indigenous yeast in open fermenters. Gently basket pressed and then matured in new and seasosned French and American oak.
