This superb dry Riesling has sublime delicacy and feather-lightness of texture, and yet is packed with personality. Bursting with orange sherbet, elderflower, jasmine and fine silver needle white tea aromas, it is fantastically refreshing, crisp and dry. As it sits in the glass, its flavours open up to reveal exotic tropical fruits and lychees. Really, really excellent. Orange is a high-altitude region. and Mayfield vineyard lies at about 860m above sea level - the coolness that comes with this elevation makes for brilliant, crystal-pure white wines.

" This 2022 Backyard Riesling is incredibly tight and mineral on the nose. Crushed shells, Dispirin (aspirin), tissue paper and lemon oil. In the mouth, the wine is featherlight and talc-y; the cool elevation of Orange (where this wine is from) imbues the wine with an airy yet grounded character. Super lovely. It's delicate and lacy. "

" Lemon-sherbet nose, fresh and very zesty. Well-judged residual sugar gives some depth and weight to the fresh acid core. Limy, mandarin – drinking well now but should also age well. A fresh, balanced and appealing style. "
Winemaking
Harvested at night to retain as much fruit characters as possible. Grapes are pressed as soon as they arrive at the winery and settled overnight in tank before being racked off the solids. Wines are all natural fermented with indigenous yeast.
