The Island Blend is a wonderfully refined, reserved, claret-style wine that combines freshness and complexity. It is made from fruit from Waiheke Island and the neighbouring Ponui island - hence the name. It has aromas of blackberry, woodsmoke, black tea and a touch of dried herbs. The medium-bodied palate is full of red berry fruits, with black olive and graphite, and a light hint of oak and pepper spice on the finish.

Island Blend: Bordeaux-style wine, 2019 vintage. Predominantly Cabernet Franc from Ponui, with Malbec, Merlot & Petit Verdot. Wild yeast fermentation, extended skin contact, 18 months in barrel, 3 months in tank. Pure craft from Waiheke & Ponui.

I gave this 4.4 in my personal records. On the nose, some earthy notes with leather, tobacco, cigar box, oak and cinnamon. On the tongue, some blackberry, pepper, licorice, chocolate and on the end palate, lingering some mint, eucalyptus. Wow! I'm so glad I bought 2 bottles. The structure and balance...unreal. Not too acidic or tannic"

Lovely pure NZ red fruit at first framing a core of rich darker fruit then a wash of cab franc with a lovely leafy vibe starts to come into the picture. Over time and ariation it changes and integrates into one complete wine but you still get hints of the delicate pure fruit within the overall rich core. Lovely wine. Moreish and special.
