This estate grown Waiheke Sauvignon Blanc really is ‘The Sancerre of the South’ – bone dry, bracing and packed with personality and herbaceous notes. It exhibits fresh herb, nettles and gooseberry character, and contains a splash of Sémillon, creating a wine that is fresh and crisp, in a dry fruity style, with a remarkable 'chalky' minerality which, over time, will develop into a wonderfully toasted muesli/tropical fruit character. The 12-mile long Waiheke Island, east of Auckland, is an evocative intriguing location. Its native Kauri trees were once prized for shipbuilding – hence the name Man O’War.

Winemaking
The 2014 vintage was exceptional, with early yet ripe Sauvignon blanc and 6% Semillon in perfect condition. Whole bunch pressed grapes, Sauvignon blanc divided for stainless steel and barrel fermentation with wild yeasts. Semillon fermented in old barrels. Barrels aged on lees for 6 months before blending and bottling.
