Beautifully fresh and complex aromas of cherry, cranberry, walnut, anise and liquorice root, with a hint of blood orange. There's a wonderful woodsy earthiness going on underneath. The aromas are ripe, but the multi-faceted nuances are far more suggestive of Burgundy than the character you would expect from Australia or New Zealand. Seamlessly supple in the mouth, with superbly well-knit acidity and tannins, this is really finely-crafted and elegantly-balanced. An absolute joy to drink immediately, this could also age gracefully for at least another 7-10 years.

Winemaking
This wine was fermented in a large-format concrete tank. The ferment, with 10% whole bunches, occurred spontaneously with ambient yeasts and lasted 18 days. Following fermentation, the wine was pressed and racked into French oak barriques (of which 20% were new) and underwent indigenous malolactic fermentation. The wine was racked only once, with a total maturation period of 14 months. It was then bottled without fining or filtration.
