The word "Roncière" comes from "roncier" (bramble bush) and refers to a place once covered with brambles. The site has excellent due east exposure, on a mild incline. The soil is not too rocky, but deep and with good drainage. This is a thoroughly mature Burgundy, with complex aromas and flavours of truffle, cedar, saffron, smoked paprika (lots of that) and pipe tobacco. Savoury and peppery, with a hint of dusty track in high summer. This really deserves some time to meditate. Drink now-2026

Winemaking
Joseph Drouhin seeks total control of the process of extraction: giving colour and substance but should never be detrimental to the finesse and typical character of the wine. Throughout the ageing process, decisions are taken only after careful tasting evaluation, barrel by barrel. The data obtained is then completed through technical analysis. As with every other Joseph Drouhin wine, absolute priority is given to the true expression of terroir and character of the vintage. Aged in 100% French oak barrels, of which 20% are new. Seasoning of the barrel staves for three years is also overseen by Joseph Drouhin, to ensure that only elements of elegance and finesse are conferred on the wine.
