Beaune Clos des Mouches Premier Cru
Joseph Drouhin
Winemaking
Hand-harvested in small crates to preserve the fruit, grapes are double-sorted in the vineyard and at the winery. Maceration lasts 2–3 weeks with indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled vats. The wine ages 14–18 months in French oak (20% new), mainly Tronçay, with wood seasoned for 3 years to enhance elegance.
Press Review
92-94/100 - One of the highlights of the range is the 2020 Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches (Domaine), a nicely balanced cuvée that wafts from the glass with aromas of cassis, raspberries, orange rind, loamy soil and peonies. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and elegant, with ripe tannins, lively acids and a saline finish, it will offer a broad drinking window.
Press Review
17/20 - Tasted blind. Mid ruby. Fresh redcurrant scent, integrated herby complexity. Tension between the red and green flavours gives attractive layering. Light tannins, fresh acid, medium body, but finishes with more gusto: there is warmth and power at the end. Drink 2028-2038.
