Key Flavours
Serve
How good Jameson Redbreast is can't be overstated - it's what Irish pot still whiskey is all about and an expression that covers the entire spectrum of flavours (linseed on the nose, spicy sherry to taste, long finish). A great whiskey.
Process
Before maturing, the whisky is crafted using a combination of malted and unmalted barley which are milled and mashed, before triple-distillation through traditional copper-pot stills. The whiskey is bottled without the use of chill filtration.
People
The name Redbreast originated from a nickname which was given to one of the whiskey’s by the chairman of Gilbey’s at the time. He was an avid birdwatcher, and so the name refers to Robin Redbreast.
Place
In 1857 a wine and spirits merchant named W&A Gilbey Co held one of the largest stocks of maturing whiskey in its inventory, this included the brand Redbreast. The brand was later purchased by Jameson in the 1980’s.
