Hattingley Valley, one of England’s leading wineries located on the edge of the South Downs in Hampshire, is renowned for its high-quality sparkling wines. Some of their best-selling wines include Classic Reserve, which is elegant and well-balanced with a fine mousse of bubbles, and Rosé Brut, offering bright red fruit aromas balanced by crisp acidity and a touch of creaminess. Perfect for celebratory occasions, these English sparkling wines showcase the best of Hampshire’s terroir.

Hattingley vineyards

Founded in 2008 by Simon Robinson, who planted the first nine hectares of vineyards on the estate’s chalk-rich slopes, Hattingley Valley has rapidly risen to prominence in the world of English sparkling wine. The winery’s success was driven in part by Winemaker Emma Rice, who has been with the estate since its inception and now works as a consultant. With a background in viticulture and oenology from Plumpton College and experience in Napa, Tasmania, and Nyetimber, Emma was instrumental in crafting Hattingley Valley’s award-winning cuvées and has twice been named Winemaker of the Year by WineGB.

Hattingley Valley’s vineyards are planted with classic Champagne varieties, including Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier, as well as Bacchus and Pinot Gris. The estate’s chalky soils and cool climate provide ideal conditions for producing wines with bright acidity and complex flavours. The winemaking process at Hattingley Valley blends traditional techniques with innovative practices, such as ageing in oak barrels to add depth and texture to the wines. One of the standout wines is the Kings Cuvée, a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier, aged for seven months in oak and then for 52 months on the lees, resulting in a wine with a fine mousse and delicate oak character. The estate also sources additional fruit from carefully selected plots across the UK, ensuring consistent quality and a distinct English character in all its wines.

Hattingley Valley is deeply committed to sustainability and environmental stewardship. The winery was designed with eco-friendly principles in mind, and the vineyards are managed with a focus on maintaining biodiversity and promoting soil health. Organic farming practices are used wherever possible, including the use of natural compost and cover cropping to enrich the soil and support vineyard ecosystems. Hattingley Valley also prioritises water conservation and energy efficiency, with solar panels installed to help power the winery. These initiatives reflect Hattingley Valley’s dedication to preserving the natural environment of the South Downs while producing wines that are not only of exceptional quality but also sustainable.
