Key Flavours
"Fortaleza is a favourite of tequila aficionados the world over. This tequila is produced in a small batch manner/fashion, right down the the handblown bottles. A great example of 100% tahona-milled tequila."
Serve
Citrus and savoury cooked agave reminiscent of olives and basil, Fortaleza Blanco is one you can sip on the rocks, but is just fantastic when used in a Paloma.
Process
Once harvested, Piñas are cooked for 36 hours in an old stone oven. They are then crushed using a “tahona” and fermented in wooden open-air tanks for 4 days before a double distillation in copper stills.
People
Launched in 2005, Fortaleza Tequila is relatively new to the industry but has 140 years of history behind the brand, with the current owner's great-great-grandfather, Don Cenobio, founding his first distillery – La Perseverancia – in 1873.
Place
Fortaleza Añejo Tequila agaves come from the heartland of tequila, known as Tequila Valley, in Jalisco, Mexico.
