Ranked as a fifth-growth in the 1855 classification, Château Pontet-Canet rocketed to stardom in the 2000s, and came to be considered one of the 'super-seconds', whose wine frequently rivals that of its First Growth next-door neighbour, Mouton-Rothschild. This is powerful, structured northern Pauillac, with great flavour concentration, richness of texture and ageing potential, together with explosive complexity. Its success is owed to the vision of the Tesseron family, who farm the estate biodynamically, and work the land with horses to treat the soil with the utmost of care. Pontet-Canet was also one of the world's first estates to utilise 'concrete eggs' in winemaking, to develop texture without masking terroir.

Press Review
Deep garnet in color, the 2009 Pontet-Canet slips sensuously from the glass with opulent scents of crème de cassis, baked plums and Black Forest cake plus suggestions of Chinese five spice, potpourri, oolong tea and menthol. Full-bodied, rich, spicy and oh-so-decadent in the mouth, it has a fantastically velvety frame and seamless freshness, finishing very long.
