Casa da Passarella have done an amazing job of taming the 'dog grape', Uva-Cão. This was traditionally planted at the entrance to vineyards to deter scrumping because of its notable level of acidity - it was known as 'the grape that guards the vines'. Through gentle maturation in used, large, French oak barrels, 'The Dog' shows its true pedigree: a wine of finesse, freshness and elegance, with long, complex flavours. Bravo!

Press Review
" The 2020 O Fugitivo Uva-Cão was aged for six months in used French oak. This comes in at 13.1% alcohol. This obscure grape is known for high acidity. It sure shows some bursts of acidity and has an acidic core, but it is relatively tamed here, by the wood, the vintage and the winemaking. The acidity easily counters the modest wood impact. Then, it coats the palate while adding tension, feeling full-bodied yet energetic. This is very fine, a great food wine. I will be interested to see how this ages and develops. The first vintage here was only the 2018, so there is not a long track record, but this has a lot of potential. Drink 2022-2035. "
