Both immediately appealing and extraordinarily complex, this offers up generous cherry, cranberry and walnut notes, evolving into suggestions of dried rose petals, aniseed, brown cardamom and leather. There's masses going on here. The palate is ripe and medium-bodied, with light tannins, lovely mid-palate texture and fresh acidity. This really is excellent, and also outstanding value for money. This is the Knipser family's 'Estate' Pinot, composed from their vineyards around the village of Laumersheim.

Winemaking
As a VDP member, vineyards are tended without pesticides, herbicides or artificial fertiliser. Grapes are hand-selected from sites with limestone soils, and others where vines grow among pebbles. The wine underwent fermentation on the skins, followed by maturation for 12-18 months in pre-seasoned barriques, with further bottle-ageing before release.
