Knipser
Weingut Knipser is a family-run winery based in Laumersheim, in the Pfalz region of Germany, known for its dedication to quality and innovation. The Knipsers’ approach balances tradition and modernity, crafting wines that are a true reflection of the Pfalz’s unique terroir.
Established in 1876 by the Knipser family, originally from the Italian Südtirol, the estate has a long history of winemaking that spans multiple generations. Today, the winery is managed by brothers Werner and Volker Knipser, alongside Werner’s children, Stephan and Sabine. Their combined expertise and commitment have propelled Weingut Knipser into the upper echelons of German winemaking, earning it membership in the prestigious VDP (Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter) in 1993. The Knipsers’ approach balances tradition and modernity, crafting wines that are a true reflection of the Pfalz region’s unique terroir.
Weingut Knipser farms approximately 40 hectares of vineyards located in some of the most esteemed sites of Laumersheim, Grosskarlbach, and Dirmstein. The estate is renowned for its diverse range of grape varieties, including Riesling, Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir), and other international varieties. Knipser’s winemaking approach is meticulous, with a strong emphasis on sustainable viticulture, hand harvesting, and careful vineyard management to maximise grape quality. The wines are crafted with a focus on expressing the distinctive minerality and ripeness influenced by the Pfalz region’s warm Mediterranean-like climate. Knipser’s dedication to innovation is evident in their use of both traditional and modern techniques, such as extended lees contact and a balance of stainless steel and oak barrel fermentation, which enhance the wines’ complexity and structure.
