Aged for 40 years in the cellars of Castarède, Armagnac's oldest producer, this fine 1983 vintage Bas Armagnac was specially released to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of The Great Wine Co. It is a beautifully elegant spirit, with lively, refined notes on the nose, and understated pâtisserie, dried apricot and toasted almond character on the palate. With depth and complexity that open up with time and attention, it shows great finesse on the long, smooth, lingering finish. This masterful Armagnac represents outstanding value for money.
Winemaking
Crafted from white grapes with high acidity, Armagnac is traditional and unique. Distilled in continuous still, 52-60° strength. Aged for richness, wood interaction is key. Cask quality matters and is linked to cooper's skill and wood origin. Cellar's hydrometry is crucial, impacting dryness and suppleness. After distillation, aged in 400L oak casks.
