One of the Mosel's steepest vineyards, Wehlener Sonnenuhr ('Sundial') has almost no topsoil - the ground is instead covered by shards of pure blue slate, from which Riesling vines eke out a living, perched precariously above the river below. The legendary JJ Prum is one of the region's finest producers, and the wines show irresistibly charming peach fruit and clover honey notes when young, while having the capacity to age for decades. This Auslese is a special, late-harvest bottling, with richness, sweetness and palate-weight, and magnificent balance and finesse.
Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese

Press Review
97/100 - Still very youthful on the nose, this is crammed with ripe peach, plus more delicate notes of pineapple and mangosteen. It’s a minor miracle that this kind of concentration can be packed into such a sleek, medium-bodied palate. What an amazing mouthfeel this has thanks to the seamless integration of slatey acidity and ripeness. Very long finish with spot-on balance. Drinkable now, but best from 2025.
Press Review
97/100 - The 2022 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese is clear, deep and dense on the clear and fresh as well as smoky but super detailed and saline nose. Rich and lush on the palate, this is a vibrantly fresh and savory, persistently saline and sustainable Auslese with a long, generous yet refined and mineral finish. It's very expressive and substantial. 8% stated alcohol. Natural cork.
