Intense ruby colour; nose of ripe purple plums, cherries, liquorice and herbs. Rich, harmonious and alluring in the mouth, with supple tannin, balanced acidity and a persistent finish to savour. A revolutionary wine, Tignanello was the first ever Sangiovese in the Chianti Classico region to be blended with Cabernets Sauvignon and Franc. It was also the first to be aged like a fine Bordeaux: in small wood barrels ('barriques'). The estate is in the undulating hillsides between the Greve and Pesa valleys, and has about 130 hectares of vineyards. Two of the most prized vineyards are on the same hillside: Tignanello and Solaia, experiencing heat during the day and cooler evenings throughout the growing season.
