This South African 'Châteauneuf-du-Pape' tastes more expensive than it is. Both the Shiraz and Grenache bring their distinctive attributes to the aroma - black cherry, black pepper and liquorice from the former, and strawberry and leather from the latter. After a few minutes in the glass, complex new facets of dried ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg manifest themselves. Take one sip and it is gloriously delicious, with Syrah's intensity and focus, and Grenache's sumptuous roundness and silkiness - what a complementary partnership. With supremely mellow texture and flavours that linger beautifully, this is impressive to drink now, and over at least the next 2-3 years.

Syrah and Grenache are grown on Hutton soil, composed of weathered granite. Berries are de-stalked, hand-sorted and crushed, before a two-day cold maceration, then fermentation in stainless steel vats with once-daily pumping-over for five days. Malolactic conversion and 18 months' maturation in 225-litre French oak barrels (2nd and 3rd fill).
