Process
This whisky is made from 100% malted barley, it’s fermented with the softest water from three rivers between Mt.Tennozan and Mt. Otokoyama. The wash is distilled through copper-pot stills that are the first of their kind outside of Scotland.
People
In 1923, Suntory's founder Shinjiro Torii founded the Yamazaki Distillery - Japan’s first and oldest malt whisky distillery. Always interested in Western pursuits, he mastered the techniques of mixing and blending through his teenage apprenticeships.
Place
Yamazaki Distillery is nestled on the periphery of Kyoto, this region was formerly referred to as "Minaseno", where one of the purest waters of Japan originates – here the Katsura, Uji and Kizu rivers converge, providing a unique misty climate.
