A gorgeous Bordeaux Pair from Château Sainte-Marie
Located in the middle of Entre-deux-Mers - between the Dordogne and Garonne rivers, Château Sainte-Marie sits on some of the highest land in the Gironde département. On these sunny hills, and generous terriors peppered with old vines, yields are strictly controlled to maintain quality and concentration. This focus is evident when you taste the wines, and this elegant pair - Bordeaux Supérieur, and Entre-Deux-Mers blanc, superbly show off the style of this delightful estate.
"This is full of character, while gentler than a Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand. The first impression is of pink grapefruit and gooseberry, with just a suggestion of tomato plant. The smell is so appetising that it invites you to take a sip. Brisk and mouthwatering on the palate, balanced by some breadth and weight of texture. It finishes where it begins with a lovely persistence of pure, zesty citrus flavours. Great to drink now, or you can expect it to gain richness of texture over the next 2-3 years. "
"Deep, vibrant purple-red. Beautifully ripe and fresh berry fruit aromas and flavours: mulberry, raspberry and strawberry. Dry in the mouth, with gentle tannin structure, it shows fabulous intensity with lovely persistence of strawberry fruit on the finish. A wine with a definite Bordeaux sense of place. This is a fabulous example of the care, attention and passion that goes into some of the more affordable wines of Bordeaux. Stéphane and Laurence Dupuch are extremely choosy about what types of vine they plant in different locations, to ensure that each reaches its full potential. White grape varieties go on clay-limestone soils, while reds are on well-drained gravel plots to ensure consistent ripening and flavour concentration. "
