Aiurri Rioja Alavesa is deep and dense, with impressively concentrated, ripe black fruit character. There is impressive tannin structure, which mellows to a wonderfully velvety texture after airing for 45 minutes. This is an outstandingly rich wine that can be enjoyed straight away, provided that it is decanted in advance, and it shows every indication that it could also cellar superbly. Drink now and over the next 10+ years.

Winemaking
Double selection of the grape was made: of clusters and berries. Working with gravity and vinification by plots that respect the raw material. Spontaneous fermentations, gentle and very controlled extractions in French oak vats and concrete tanks. Aged for sixteen months in French oak barrels of different sizes.

94/100 - From calcareous soils, the 2022 Aiurri is deep and dark in color, mostly Tempranillo, though the vineyard also has Graciano, Garnacha, white varieties, and some unknown varieties that end up in the final product. It has a powerful entry of firm tannin, graphite, tobacco, and dried-herb, all full-bodied intensity and sinewy texture. French oak of different sizes was used for aging 16 months, with a portion set aside 18 months in concrete amphorae. Drinking window 2030-2042.

94/100 - Very well-made, a harmonious melange of fresh, plummy fruit with fine spices, warm bread and minerals. High-grade oak adds a bit of warmth. Medium- to full-bodied with firm tannins. Structured yet long. The wood tannins will integrate in two more years. Drinkable now but better from 2027.
