An unpronounceable name, but a truly wonderful wine. Thanks to high altitude and vines arond 100 years old, it has freshness and fabulous fruit concentration, and an amazing, super-silky texture, all of which arise from the intensely sunny days yet decidedly chilly nights through the growing season. Thanks to its beautiful balance, it could cellar effortlessly for several years, however its wonderful silkiness means that there is nothing to prevent immediate enjoyment. This is a special project by the winemaker of top Ribera del Duero estate, Pago de Carraovejas, to revive some tiny, old vineyards, which are the very highest in the region - at 1,076 metres elevation (Milsetentayseis means 1,076).

Winemaking
Clusters are selectively hand-harvested, and two more selections are made in the winery: first of clusters, then individual berries within the bunch. The fruit of each plot is vinified separately, in small wooden vats, concrete and stainless steel tanks and amphorae. The wine ages 18 months in French oak barrels and foudres, and 12 months in the bottle.
Press Review
95/100 - Immediately arresting on the nose with its jumpy aromas of dried herbs, white pepper, mushrooms and minerals on top of the red cherries and berries. Full-bodied and powerful, with an abundance of chalky tannins. Long and very focused. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
Press Review
94/100 - The 2021 Tinto is fragrant, subtle and elegant, not lacking ripeness or power with its 14.5% alcohol, but it has the freshness of the cooler year and the high altitude where the vines grow. Each small plot was vinified separately without using pumps, only by gravity, in different formats and materials—small oak vats, concrete, stainless steel and even clay amphorae—and the wine matured in barrels and oak vats for 18 months. It has a medium- to full-bodied palate and abundant, fine-grained tannins.
