Grapes rigorously sorted on conveyor belt. Cold soak for 7 days at 8-10°C. Fermentation with punch-downs for 10-15 days in French oak vats and stainless-steel tanks at 20-26°C, maintained during post-fermentation maceration (2-6 days). Malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels. Aged 16 months in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd use French oak.

93/100 - This big Ramnista was so backward that it is not coming to the USA until 2017 and it will be re-released around 2021 or so, too, when it will presumably be more ready to drink. The lusher 2012 was actually released earlier. This 2011 has opened up just a bit, though, since I first saw it. We can be more confident now in where it is going. Classic, somewhat rustic and rather old school, this shows less oak than some (beginning in 2009, the toast of the oak was reduced) and better purity of fruit. Then, it adds all that unbridled power. And more power. More or less impossible to approach now, the hope is that it might settle down by around 2021, but even that seems rather optimistic. Somewhere around 2026 might make better sense (or longer) if you really want it to show complexity and something resembling harmony. Certainly, this issue's vertical demonstrates that Ramnista has no problem lasting for 30+ years or so in a fine vintage, so don't feel like you have to rush in. Given how this shows now and how the vertical performed, it is certainly worth expanding that end-date drinking window. It should hold indefinitely. Drink 2021-2047
