Yealands Estate’s Seaview Vineyard is located in Marlborough’s prominent winemaking region of the Awatere Valley. One of New Zealand’s most coastal vineyards, Seaview is found on the north-eastern tip of New Zealand’s South Island and overlooks Clifford Bay. This coastal land was once considered too wild, windswept and undulating for growing grapes, but today Seaview Vineyard is one of the most exciting vineyards in Marlborough. Their wines are an expression of their coastal location and the unique terroir of the Marlborough region, showcasing the unique environment of this singularly incredible vineyard to produce Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir wines with intensity and character.
Yealands Wines launched with an ambition to be a world leader in sustainable wine production. Forward-thinking and innovative, Yealands are the first winery in the world to be certified Toitū Carbon Zero since day one, with all greenhouse gas emissions measured and either offset, managed or reduced. In addition to winning numerous international accolades for the quality of their Estate and Single Vineyard wines, the company’s innovative approach to sustainable wine production has seen the extensive restoration of native vegetation within their vineyards to promote biodiversity and provide a habitat for native birds and insects and the installation and utilisation of renewable energy initiatives.
Sustainability is at the very heart of heart of everything that Yealands undertakes, from the careful management of the vines and land to the way they operate the winery and craft wines. Vibrant, fresh and bursting with natural flavour, Yealands wines reflect this commitment to sustainable winemaking, but never at the expense of flavour.
Yealands have implemented industry-leading sustainability initiatives, from installing one of New Zealand’s largest solar arrays on the winery roof to utilising vine prunings as a source of energy, planting cover crops and wildflowers between vine rows, and allowing miniature babydoll sheep to roam and forage among the vines to keep pests at bay.
The Seaview Vineyard is abundant in flora and fauna, cared for by an expert team who work continuously on many important biodiversity projects. Butterfly Gully is an example of this work, planting native New Zealand swan plants to attract the Monarch butterfly and create a safe haven for this large and beautiful species to thrive.
Wetlands on the vineyard provide a home for native and local birds. By planting native shrubs and flaxes around the wetlands Yealands hope to nurturing habitats, balancing the ecosystem and protecting the lands for the next generations.
