The Frescobaldi family have been producing wine in Tuscany for seven hundred years, beginning in the early 1300s. The family history is filled with illustrious ancestors: literary figures, explorers, musicians, financiers, bishops, and statesmen, and the Frescobadi story interweaves the histories of Italy and Europe. Frescobaldi traded with European Courts, beginning in the 13th century, and in the the 15th and 16th centuries, the Florentine wine house furnished wine to the Court of England and to the Papal Court in Rome, amongst others. Easrlier still the Frescobaldis had established relationships and commercial ties with the workshops of numerous artists, among them Donatello, Michelozzo Michelozzi, and Filippo Brunelleschi.

Throughout the family’s history, a commitment to viticulture and to agriculture has been the defining hallmark of the Frescobaldis, and today, President Lamberto Frescobaldi utilises his significant expertise in the field to strengthen the unique positoning of the wines of each of his family’s estates - Castello Nipozzano, Remole, CastelGiocondo, Gorgona, Tenuta Calimaia, Castello Pomino, Castiglioni, Tenuta Ammiraglia – as well as the direction of the legendary Ornellaia Super Tuscan from Bolgheri.

As part of the Frescobaldi commitment to viticulture and to agriculture, and to the people and lands of Tuscany, the Frescobaldi family and businesses have committed to reducing energy, water consumption and emissions from their winemaking, production and transportation, including the use of lighter and more environmentally-conscious glass bottles throughout. As a result of these initiatives, carbon-dioxide are expected to be reduced by over 1000 tonnes annually, whilst reuse of wood-waste and sustainable management of forests enables Frescobaldi to produce over 100 tonnes of organic fertiliser every year.
