Key Flavours
Serve
There a clear character of mellow sloe berries, fruity with notes of sweet cherry and a slight scent of almonds. To taste it's smooth, fruity and full bodied, with a balanced sweetness and acidity. Long, fresh and fruity. One to savour neat.
Process
The recipe features a classic combination of botanicals, including orange peel, lemon peel, green cardamom, juniper, coriander, angelica and orris - just as it did when their craft began way back in 1793. Sloes are then steeped into the gin.
People
Plymouth Gin is made by Sean Harrison who joined in 1994 as Assistant Manager, rising to become Master Distiller. In doing so he became the keeper of its coveted 200 year old recipe, passed down verbally to every Master Distiller since 1793.
Place
This iconic distillery is a former Black Friars building dating back to the 1400s. The most intact part of the distillery is home to a hull-shaped timber roof built in 1431. The Pilgrim Fathers even spent their last night in England here in 1620.
