This 100% Tempranillo is the fruit of a vineyard of less than one hectare at 550m elevation in La Rad cru at San Vicente de la Sonsierra, planted in 1970. It shows perfumed notes of cherries, raspberries and rose petals, with a subtle sweet spiciness. You can just drink in the aroma! Superbly refined on the palate, with fruit and spice flavours that refelect the aroma. There is the merest suggestion of dryness that indicates the potential for further development in the bottle, but this is wrapped in sumptuous finesse. Pretty much irresistible to drink straight away, this also displays much promise for those with the willpower to hold some back. Undoubtedly Grand Cru quality!

96/100 - From winemaker Eduardo Eguren’s favorite vineyard, La Rad, which once belonged to his grandfather, the 2022 Los Yelsones is 100% Tempranillo from high-density vines planted in 1970. The 2018 was the first vintage. This vintage aged 16 months in 50% new 500-liter French oak. The medium-bodied, spicy, minerally wine is more intense and built with a larger framework than the producer’s Septeno, chalky in nature from its aroma to its texture to its finish. Yet it's also finessed and somewhat ethereal and undeniably fresh. The structure suggests serious aging potential of 20-30 years, but why wait? Drink 2025-2055.
