Gusbourne
Exceptional English sparkling wines made from hand selected fruit from estate vineyards in Appledore, Kent and West Sussex.
Gusbourne is an acclaimed English wine estate located in Kent and West Sussex, renowned for its premium vintage sparkling and still wines. Founded by Andrew Weeber, Gusbourne has achieved an exceptional reputation for quality, becoming a three-time winner of WineGB Winery of the Year and IWSC English Wine Producer of the Year. Today, the estate is guided by a team that includes Chief Vineyard Manager Jon Pollard, whose deep knowledge and commitment to craftsmanship underpin the estate’s ongoing success. Since planting its first vines in 2004, Gusbourne has remained dedicated to producing wines exclusively from its own grapes.
Gusbourne cultivates 90 hectares of vineyards, with 60 hectares in Appledore, Kent, and 30 hectares in West Sussex near the Goodwood Estate. The estate uses predominantly Burgundian clones of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier—varietals known for yielding lower volumes of intensely concentrated fruit. Every grape is hand-picked at peak ripeness, and the winemaking process follows a traditional method marked by precision and restraint. Grapes are pressed in whole bunches, with fermentation occurring in a mix of stainless steel and oak. The wines undergo extended lees ageing and secondary ageing under cork to deepen complexity and ensure a consistently high standard of expression.
Sustainability is a cornerstone of Gusbourne’s philosophy. From day one, the estate has followed a low-intervention, nature-led approach to viticulture. Biodiversity is actively encouraged through companion planting and wildlife-friendly vineyard practices. The vineyard team focuses on nurturing healthy soils and robust vines using minimal inputs and traditional methods. In the winery, techniques such as hand-stacking for lees ageing and strict quality thresholds help preserve energy and reduce waste. Gusbourne’s commitment to only releasing vintages that meet their uncompromising standards further reflects their respect for nature’s rhythms and the integrity of their craft.
