A tiny, superbly-positioned Grand Cru, which rubs shoulders with Le Chambertin, Charmes-Chambertin, Clos de Beze and Chapelle-Chambertin. The name 'Griotte' suggests morello cherries, and the wine's character is indeed led by concentrated cherry aromas and flavours, lent nuance by subtle leather, nutmeg, truffle and game notes. The tannins are suave and full of finesse, and the flavours persist gloriously on the palate.

Winemaking
Fruit is 100% from the Drouhin family estate, and farmed organically since the 1980s. Hand-picked and hand-sorted, fermented with indigenous yeasts with varying proportions of whole bunches, dependent on the vintage (between 20% and 50%). 2-3 weeks' fermentation and maceration in small, open vats, followed by ageing in French oak barrels, 30% new.
