Key Flavours
Serve
A wonderfully complex spirit (including some 1875, 1906 and 1955 vintage cognacs), this liqueur can be sipped at room temperature, offering notes of toasted oranges, nuts and peach on the palate with an invitingly floral notes.
Process
Quintessence is flavoured with a distillate of bitter oranges. Instead of being macerated in spirit and distilled once to produce the 'simple parfum' - they macerate orange skins in the 'simple parfum' distillate, before redistilling it once more.
People
In 1827, Jean Baptiste Lapostolle, a distiller of fine fruit liqueurs, built what would become Grand Marnier’s first distillery in Neauphle-le-Château, a small city outside of Paris. Today it is owned by Gruppo Campari.
Place
Quintessence is made using exceptionally old cognacs sourced exclusively from the Grande Champagne region. Many of the 20 eau de vies selected are from the Marnier family's own personal cellar in Bourg Charente Castle.
