This fabulously-situated site, sandwiched between Échezeaux and Clos de Vougeot, was originally planted by the monks of Citeaux, to rival the prestigious Musigny. It is located in the 'sweet spot', in the middle of a gentle slope, facing due east, and is considered superior to the Grands Crus both uphill and downhill of it. From early in its development, the wine displays magnificent finesse and complexity: black cherries and high cacao dark chocolate, evolving into suggestions of woodland walks, black truffle, fine cigars and cedarwood. The texture is like silk - an extraordinary wine.

Winemaking
An exceptional Pinot terroir, with Bajocian chalk subsoil. Organically-cultivated since the 1980s, and the bunches are carefully hand-harvested and selected, before fermentation on native yeasts, and including a proportion of whole clusters. Post-fermentation maceration before ageing 16-20 months in French oak barrels, of which around 30% are first-fill.
