Elki is an intriguing Sangiovese from the innovative Falernia winery in Chile's northern Elqui Valley. Giorgio Flessati, the winemaker, is Italian, and it's fascinating to see how one of his staple varieties from home performs in an utterly different, near-desert, climate. The wine is juicy, supple and vivacious, with the gentleness that comes from several years' maturation before release. It's wonderful to drink at any time.
