Utterly succulent and elegant, the 2020 Barolo Cannubi offers appealingly complex aromas of fresh cherries, roasted chestnuts, seasoned oak and autumnal forest walks. On the palate, the tannins are fabulously silky, and the wine evokes a sense of gentle ripeness, while remaining precise and focused. The flavour concentration is channelled into long, lean persistence instead of obvious richness. Clearly from a warm, ripe year, it remains fresh and beautifully-balanced. Enjoyable already, its best is still to come. Drink now-2040+.

97/100 - The E. Pira e Figli - Chiara Boschis 2020 Barolo Cannubi is a fine and delicate wine, although there is a little more grit and richness in this warm vintage. The quality of the fruit is exceptional, especially its crisp ripeness. Dark cherry, blackcurrant, rose blossom, pink pepper and white limestone add considerable high-toned notes. The freshness is great and the fruit stays juicy, fueling a long, elegant finish. Drink 2026 - 2048.

96/100 - Notes of crushed rocks leap from the 2020 Barolo Cannubi, which is vinified exactly the same way, but the terroir really shows its face in this wine. Offering exuberant aromas of ripe, fresh black raspberries and pure cherry candies, the palate is rich in its structure, with ripe tannins and broad shoulders, but it remains light on its feet, with loads of purity and a generous, elegant nature. Hold it another year and drink over the coming 15 or more years. It has loads to offer. Drink 2024 - 2040.
