Key Flavours
Serve
Peppermint, anise and herbal, piny notes are clear on the nose. To taste, it's sweeter than the green version, with honeyed rootiness, citrus and resinous pine. Mint returns on the finish, alongside peppery herbs.
Process
Only two Chartreuse monks know the identity of the 130 plants, how to blend them and how to distil them into this world-famous liqueur. The green colour is entirely natural and done via infusion.
People
Brother Bruno Jacquet is credited to have invented Yellow Chartreuse in 1838. Today, the sales of the liqueurs allow the Chartreuse Monks to continue to dedicate their lives to prayer and meditation.
Place
The ‘herb room” is still located in the old monastery’s bakery, but now production happens at their new distillery in Aiguenoire. The old Voiron distillery operational between 1936 and 2017 is now the Chartreuse liqueurs tourist centre.
