Beaulieu Vineyard
Legendary Californian creators of the first Cult Cabernet Sauvignon, the legendary Georges de Latour, with estate vineyards across Rutherford and Calistoga districts.
Beaulieu Vineyard, founded in 1900 by French immigrants Georges and Fernande de Latour, is one of Napa Valley’s oldest and most iconic wineries. The name "Beaulieu," meaning "beautiful place," reflects the couple’s vision and passion for winemaking in the heart of Rutherford, California. The vineyard gained significant acclaim under the leadership of renowned winemaker André Tchelistcheff, who joined in 1938 and is widely considered the father of modern winemaking in Napa Valley. Today, the legacy continues with Trevor Durling, who became Chief Winemaker in 2017. Durling is dedicated to maintaining the classic style and quality that Beaulieu Vineyard is known for, while also pushing boundaries through innovation.
Beaulieu Vineyard’s winemaking philosophy is rooted in a blend of tradition and innovation, focusing on single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignons that showcase the distinct character of the Rutherford AVA. The vineyard’s proximity to the Rutherford Bench, with its unique gravelly soils, allows for the production of wines with balanced structure, elegance, and age-worthy potential. A key differentiator for Beaulieu is its heritage clones, including the BV Clone 4 and BV Clone 6, which have been integral to the winery’s standout Cabernet Sauvignon. Advanced vinicultural practices such as precision irrigation, canopy management, and careful fruit selection ensure high-quality grape production. The winery combines traditional winemaking techniques with modern advancements, including small-lot fermentation and state-of-the-art barrel ageing, to create wines that capture the essence of their terroir.
Beaulieu is certified by the Napa Green program, which recognises efforts in water conservation, energy efficiency, and waste reduction across the winery and vineyards. The winery also prioritises responsible resource management, including the use of renewable energy sources and sustainable packaging solutions. Beaulieu Vineyard’s ongoing dedication to sustainability reflects its commitment to preserving the environment while producing wines of exceptional quality for future generations.
