The Bonnes Mares Grand Cru straddles the villages of Chambolle-Musigny and Morey-St-Denis, although all of Drouhin's vines are on the Chambolle side. Less famous than Le Musigny, this is nevertheless a fine Grand Cru, mid-slope on a gentle incline facing due east, and sheltered from prevailing winds by the forest on the higher côte immediately to the west. This is a thoroughbred wine, with the ethereal refinement that typifies those from the Chambolle village, and the balance and persistency to reward cellaring. Red fruit-dominated, with raspberries and red cherries, and a subtle savouriness, suggestive of tobacco, truffle and musk.
