Some Red, some White and some Rosé...

Not sure which wines to stock up on this Christmas? It’s wonderful to hand-pick bottles for the those particularly special days of the festive season but it’s also fantastic to have a few go-to wines at hand that are versatile enough to pair with food or sip as an aperitif.

We take a look at some of our favourites…

The Red

Whether it’s a sumptuous ruby-hued bottle you’re after or something light and fruity, our selection of red wines offers something for every occasion. From iconic Australian producer D’Arenberg, The High Trellis Cabernet Sauvignon has intense flavours of black fruits with characteristic notes of cassis and violet. It’s a powerful wine with fine tannins and makes a great pairing with steak or a hearty casserole.

If you are pairing with vegetables or lighter meats such as chicken, a silky Pinot Noir is a wonderful choice. Elegant with bright red berries on the palate, Seresin’s Leah Pinot Noir is a fantastic example of how well the New Zealand climate suits this delicate grape.

We also love the selection of incredible value wines from Spanish producer CARE, in bottles that are also a feast for the eyes! Their Garnacha Nativa is an elegant wine with enticing aromas of ripe red and black fruits, while their Crianza is rich and spicy, making the perfect warming red to sip post festive preparations.

The White

One of our best-selling wines Les Mougeottes’s Chardonnay is an exceptional expression of this fantastic grape, and a great choice for the white Burgundy devotees. Subtly oaked, it offers aromas of pineapple and peach with buttery notes on the palate, making a fantastic pairing with white meats, roasted vegetables, and grilled fish, as well as a delicious apéritif.

We also love Single Block L5 Sauvignon Blanc from Yealands Estate which was awarded ‘Best In Show’ at the Decanter World Wine Awards. With a pure, mineral palate that offers notes of wild thyme and citrus, this is also a versatile wine that can be paired with food or sipped solo.

If you are in the mood for something deliciously refreshing, Free-Run Steen Chenin Blanc from South African producer M.A.N. is bursting with tropical fruit flavours that are balanced by a mouth-watering acidity. A great bottle to have ready to pop open during the festive season.

The Rosé

Whether you’re watching your favourite classic film, wrapping presents or sharing a bottle with family, rosé is a wonderful choice for the festive season.

Made from Tempranillo, Organic Garnacha Rosado by Embrujo has rose petals on the nose with strawberries and raspberries on the palate, making a great choice for a multitude of occasions.

Alternatively, for a complex, balanced and classic Provence style, Rosé de Léoube Organic is a fabulous wine offering soft red fruits with hints of honey and fresh mint. We love that this rosé also comes in magnum format for those festive occasions.Last but not least, for a fabulous juicy fruit character, Sierra Cantabria’s Rioja Rosado is a beautiful delicate pink hue offering a dry palate packed with raspberries and roses. Delicious!

Don't want to mix and match your way through and just want a guaranteed selection of crowd pleasers? No problem - we've got just the ticket (or case) for you! Our Rack 'n' Roll Mixed Six features three whites and three reds from outstanding wineries across the world. A fabulous, everyday selection of offerings to enjoy of the Christmas break.
