A Few Ways To Save This Christmas

Laura on 27 Oct 2014

They may not be switched on yet but the Christmas decorations are well and truly up on every high street in the UK, working as a daily reminder that the festive season is among us, and Christmas day is just around the corner.  If that’s not enough incentive to start saving for the holiday period then I don’t know what will be.  Every year it gets left until the last minute, squeezing all Christmas costs into that one last month of the year, resulting in a far less extravagant New Years Eve than one would like.  Here are a few tips for the next month or two to help make sure you’re left with a bit of extra spending money so that you can treat yourself this year as well.

Don’t miss out on pre-season offers

First things first, there are only a few days left to enjoy our offer on South American wines.  Until midnight on November 2nd, you can receive up to 20% off wines from Chile, Leyda, Argentina and many more, with free delivery on orders with 12 bottles or over to any UK mainland address.  There are some great deals on all sorts of products and different brands that are great to have in time for Christmas too, so now is a better time than any to stock up on a few bits and bobs that you know will last you until the new year – especially with the likelihood of Christmas food prices likely to increase as the date gets nearer.

Play ‘Secret Santa’

Some may feel a little hard done by with this, but there is another way to look at it.  I personally see the bonus of getting one gift you’re particularly pleased with rather than lots of little (although very nice, I’m sure) gifts that you hadn’t necessarily been looking for.  On the whole, this saves everyone a fair bit of money too, and also rules out those standard Christmas themed gifts with which the novelty tends to wear off after an hour or two.  It’s not that a Christmas jumper over the festive period isn’t a nice bit of fun, but wouldn’t you prefer a delicious mixed case of red wines, hand selected by a team of experts? I thought so.

Be resourceful

Fancy making some exciting canapés for your party goers this year? This doesn’t have to break the bank.  Use the likes of Pinterest for party food inspiration with fun little twists using every day ingredients rather than luxury recipes that go half as far for twice the cost.

Make the most of the festive season

One great thing about the holiday season is that its sometimes more appealing to have a cosy night in with a glass of mulled wine than venture out in the cold to bars and restaurants.  If you have kids you can all get together and use the time to do a bit of Christmas DIY - make some stockings at home, saving money and having a bit of fun.  If not – put your feet up by the fire and warm up with a hot, cinnamon spiced red wine.

It’s easy to spend money  this time of year, but in my opinion you’re better off having a little left over at the end rather than panicking you’ve over spent, so it’s definitely worth having a look at what you could do to make your life just a touch easier this year... and just imagine how much you’ll enjoy treating yourself in the early days of January to that fine wine you’ve been waiting for, something you’ve been eyeing up in the January sale, or even a token gesture towards a 2015 holiday!
