5 Reasons To Stay In This Weekend

Night In With Dinner and Wine

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy spending my weekends out and about just as much as the next person, and love discovering new things to do and places to see, but sometimes there is nothing better than swapping your Saturday night out for the sofa and a pair of slippers, and here are 5 reasons why...

Saving the pennies

If you lead a relatively busy social life then it can definitely have an effect on your bank balance, so from time to time it can’t hurt to have a night in and save on spends.  It won’t take you long to discover that your funds go noticeably further at home too, so you can treat yourself without having to worry that you’re delving too deep into your pockets.

Cooking great food

Eating out is something I can safely say that the majority of us enjoy, but cooking an impressive meal in your own kitchen can be pretty great too.  Try planning ahead a little and go for a theme or particular focus, whether it’s you and a partner or a few friends, it’ll help you make the most out of an evening spent at home.  Tapas is always a great idea for some fun and variation, and definitely a crowd pleaser if there are a few of you, with dishes that you can graze from throughout the night, keeping the event quite lively.

Disagreeing with your TV

They may be love/hate shows but we’ve probably all watched enough of the likes of Strictly Come Dancing and The X factor to have an opinion on it.  Whether you’re a fan of the performers or simply enjoy shouting at the judges through your TV in despair, catching up on the latest from these shows never fails to provide some priceless entertainment at the weekend.

Drinking a great wine

There are endless reasons why savouring a particularly special bottle of wine at home has its perks to it.  That’s not to say that we shouldn’t enjoy the experience at a restaurant or bar from time to time too, but there’s something a bit different about taking your time in the peace, quiet and comfort of your own living room.  You’re also not limited then by a specific wine list or menu, you can choose the exact wine you want to go with the specific meal of your choice, and all with very little effort.

If you need a little help deciding, I often find confidence in a wine based on recommendations and solid press reviews.  The Biferno Rosso Riserva, a current bestseller, has gained a number of impressive comments from various national press and wine experts, noting it as a “savoury, classic wine”, a “wine with a backbone & class”, and “terrific value”.  The general consensus across the board is that this wine is the perfect match for rich tomato sauces, meats, and hard tangy cheeses too... so perfect for tapas night!

Avoiding the Autumn Chill

More often than not, a night out will end up with a prolonged wait for a taxi home, which is becoming an increasingly more unpleasant experience in this October weather.  When you can put the fire on and get cosy inside for the evening, with a mere walk up the stairs to your slumber, the decision between that and the unpredictable weather seems to be a no brainer.
