Key Flavours
Serve
Fresh citrus peel underpinned by a soft oaky cedar and a tinge of mace create an aromatic nose. It's sweet and complex to taste, with ginger, citrus, cloves all leading to a honeyed finish. Time to make a Singapore sling!
Process
Herbs are split into four different preparations, three of which are a combination of steeping and distilling, while the fourth is simply macerated. All of these are aged independently before being married and further aged before bottling.
People
Initially developed by wine merchant Alexandre Le Grand in the 19th century, who embellished a story around an original recipe by the Benedictine monks of the Abbey of Fécamp in Normandy. Today it is a part of the Bacardi portfolio.
Place
Benedictine is made in France, with much of the long history more myth than truth. Its French provenance played aa key role in the spirit becoming popular in New Orleans and how it found its way into the iconic cocktail the View Carré.
