Quinta do Crasto, nestled in the stunning Douro Valley, boasts over four centuries of history, with the estate celebrating its 400th anniversary in 2015. The estate is renowned for its terraced vineyards perched above the Douro River. The Roquette family has owned the estate for several generations, ensuring its rich heritage and traditional practices remain at the heart of its operations. Key figures include winemaker Miguel Roquette, who is instrumental in crafting the distinctive wines for which Quinta do Crasto is celebrated.
The viticulture at Quinta do Crasto is deeply rooted in the Douro Valley’s unique terroir. The estate cultivates around 70 hectares of vineyards on schistous soil, which provides the ideal conditions for producing complex and rich wines. The winemaking process combines traditional foot-treading methods with modern techniques to achieve balance and quality. Quinta do Crasto is known for its ability to blend native Portuguese grape varieties like Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz, crafting elegant wines with a strong sense of place.
