Poliziano
A symbol of excellence in Tuscany, producing Vino Nobile and Rosso di Montepulciano, Poliziano blends tradition and modernity, redefining Prugnolo Gentile.
Poliziano is a family‑run Tuscan wine estate founded in 1961 by Dino Carletti and today led by his son Federico Carletti, an agronomist, together with the next generation, Francesco and Maria Stella Carletti, who became winemaker in 2024. The winery is located in Montepulciano and is renowned for producing Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. The estate has expanded significantly over the decades, now comprising organically farmed vineyards across key sites such as Valiano, Lama, Casale, Pozzi, Caggiole and Asinone, with the latter considered the crown jewel of the property.
Viticulture at Poliziano focuses on meticulous vineyard management where clone selection, planting layouts, pruning methods and training systems are all precisely defined. Dense plantings—up to 2,000 plants per acre—are hand‑harvested parcel by parcel. Certified organic since 2021, the vineyards predominantly cultivate Prugnolo Gentile (Sangiovese), complemented by small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Canaiolo Nero and Colorino. In the cellar, Poliziano pairs advanced technology such as optical sorting with traditional vinification for top cuvées, and has worked with noted consultants Carlo Ferrini and Maurizio Castelli to refine its Sangiovese‑focused wines. Signature single‑vineyard expressions include Asinone and Caggiole, known for showcasing micro‑terroir differences within Montepulciano.
Poliziano has embedded sustainability into its operations for decades, consistently aiming to respect the environment and enhance ecological performance. The estate achieved organic certification in 2021, reflecting its long‑term commitment to natural agricultural practices. Solar energy now provides more than 20% of the winery’s power needs, demonstrating a practical investment in renewable resources. In addition, the estate has progressively eliminated less optimally sited vineyard parcels and replanted only in areas best suited to sustainable, high‑quality viticulture, further reinforcing its environmental responsibility.
