The Planeta story is a journey through time and space, through Sicily from west to east, and through the five unique terrors where today they produce world-leading wines and olive oils. Planeta are committed to protecting the distinctiveness of the environments in which they operate: the countryside and the culture – treating them with the same respect with which they explore the characteristics of their terroirs and vineyards, and seeking to enhance the specificity of each area.
Image Of Planeta Sustainability

Planeta journeyed though Sicily, undertaking research into the indigenous grape varieties found across Sicily’s varying terriors, including varietals now forgotten, and into the suitability of the different terroirs to welcome international varieties. As a result, Planeta established estates in five different from west to east across the island. The plan was to build in each location an experiential hub devoted to the culinary arts, enhancing the appreciation of hospitality, cooking, nature and culture, and it is on these integral elements that the company has been based since its formation: an instinct for the future, together with a curiosity to see the world has guided every choice along the journey. Planeta’s quest for innovation has never been at odds with historic and traditional interpretations of winemaking, but rather to enhance and optimise them. Patient and meticulous research has directed to the past as much as to the future; linking the oldest Sicilian traditions of wine making with its heritage of indigenous varieties, to the application of new international grape varietals best adapted to these territories.

Sustainability, for Planeta, is not an end, but an ongoing journey; an aspiration which these winemakers have defined broadly and ambitiously. Whether through implementing oenological practices that are sensitive to the eco-system that supports them, and which promote the long-term viability of the environment, or through socially responsible activities which positively influence the societies in which they operate, the protection of the countryside, the traditions, the culture and the means of production is always at the forefront for Paneta. ‘Planeta Terra’ is the name given to many of the ideas which define the company’s present and future, delineated with a clear objective of ethical environmental sustainability. Planeta is part of SOSTAIN, the first Italian environmental wine growing certification, within which Planeta, linking traditional and organic viticulture, seeks to apply scientific and technological innovations locally and nationally. The programme is distinguished by transparency of communication, multi-disciplinary management of topics, and a consistent, innovative and coherent scientific approach to sustainability.
