Marco Felluga
A pioneer of modern sustainable winemaking, Marco Felluga, now under winemaker Ilaria Felluga, make elegant white wines in Collio Goriziano in Friuli.
Marco Felluga is a historic, family‑run winery based in Gradisca d’Isonzo in the Collio region of Friuli‑Venezia Giulia, Italy. The Felluga family has been active in winemaking since the late 1800s, and the modern estate was founded in 1956 by Marco Felluga after completing studies at the Conegliano School of Enology. Leadership today rests with his granddaughter, Ilaria Felluga, who took over following the passing of her father Roberto in 2021.
The estate manages vineyards in four key subzones of the Collio, allowing for meticulous grape selection and tailored winemaking strategies. Collio’s favourable climate for white grape varieties supports production of expressive, terroir‑driven wines. Marco Felluga historically championed low yields, improved vine‑training systems and extended ageing, including lees ageing, helping redefine quality standards in Friuli. These innovations, combined with the region’s mineral‑rich soils, result in wines known for finesse, complexity and ageing potential
Sustainability is central to the philosophy of Marco Felluga and Russiz Superiore. Both estates employ sustainable and organic farming methods and use renewable‑energy systems, including solar installations that render Russiz Superiore energy self‑sufficient. Additional measures include ozone‑enriched water for disease control, reducing chemical dependency, and active participation in Italy’s VIVA and SQNPI certification frameworks, which promote biodiversity, reduced environmental impact and responsible viticulture.
