Lionel Gosseaume
Lionel Gosseaume’s Domaine de Pierre crafts standout Sauvignon and supple Gamay in Touraine, showing precision, power and deep-rooted family heritage.
Lionel Gosseaume is the owner and winemaker behind Domaine de Pierre, a 15-hectare estate located on the Touraine/Sologne border in the Loire Valley. Although he initially pursued a career outside wine, he returned to his roots at the age of 37 in 2007, naming the domaine in honour of his late father. Spread across eight parcels in four communes, the estate continues the Gosseaume family’s longstanding connection to viticulture in the region.
Domaine de Pierre’s vineyards date back to the late 19th century and have gained a reputation for producing wines that exceed the expectations of Touraine. Lionel’s Sauvignon Blanc has drawn comparisons to top Sancerres, with remarkable concentration and freshness. His Gamay, meanwhile, is prized for its elegance and finesse. Key to his success is a vinicultural regime that includes severe pruning and natural grassing between the rows, which helps temper the vines’ natural vigour and encourages complexity in the fruit.
While not formally certified, Lionel Gosseaume applies sustainable principles in both vineyard and cellar. His low-intervention farming—particularly his use of cover crops and minimal inputs—reflects a commitment to environmental responsibility.
