Purple-black colour with bright rim. The nose is concentrated and complex, of sumptuous black fruit laced with savoury, smoky, coffee, green pepper and graphite dust notes. Succulent, suave and full-bodied, with masses of tannin which is so fine-textured as to be barely noticeable. Juicy and deep, rich and long, this wine has a poker-face, holding its flavours close to its chest before unhurriedly laying its aces on the table: dark-juiced morello cherry, cacao, hints of leaf and bright violet. According to Daniel Pi, this is 97% Malbec 'contaminated' by 3% Cabernet Franc, whose 'flaws' have been carefully preserved in the bottle. It may be imperfect, but it comes across as flawless. An exceptional wine.

Winemaking
97% Malbec and 3% whole-bunch Cabernet Franc, from the extreme high-altitude Gualtallary sub-district, whose vineyards reach 1,600m elevation, beneath the Mt. Tupongato volcano. Intense sunlight, poor soils with high lime content, and cold night-time temperatures lead to full ripeness contrasted with bright acidity. Aged 18 months in French oak barrels.
Press Review
96/100 - This is a tight and compressed expression of malbec with black-licorice and blueberry character. Full-bodied, very compacted and beautiful. Salt and limestone. Extremely fine tannins and a fantastic finish. Focused and tight. Insightful wine. Drink or hold.
